A Plea for Equity in Federal Representation

APC stakeholders in the Moro Local Government Area (LGA) have formally requested that the party’s leadership zone the House of Representatives seat for the Edu/Moro/Patigi Federal Constituency to their district in 2027. In a statement signed by Mallam Kareem Suleiman on Wednesday, the group highlighted a persistent pattern of political isolation. Despite being part of a three-LGA constituency, Moro—the Yoruba-speaking minority in Kwara North—has not produced a representative in the lower chamber of the National Assembly since the return to democracy in 1999. The stakeholders argue that after nearly three decades of exclusion, the principle of natural justice demands a shift in the current rotation.

Historical Data of Seat Distribution (1999–2027)

To support their claim of marginalization, the stakeholders provided a breakdown of the individuals who have held the seat, noting that Edu and Patigi LGAs have rotated the position between themselves for 28 years. By the end of the current term in 2027, the seat's occupancy will be distributed as follows:

Edu Local Government: 16 years total (Yahaya Yinusa, 1999–2007; Ahmed Ndakene, 2019–2023; Adam Ahmad Saba, 2023–2027).

Patigi Local Government: 12 years total (Bahago Hamman Pategi, 2007–2019).
