Ukrainian military forces have carried out a highly effective precision strike against a specialized drone base located at the Kirovske airfield in temporarily occupied Crimea. This operation, a joint effort between the Unmanned Systems Forces and the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine, targeted the primary infrastructure used for the preparation and deployment of Russia’s most sophisticated aerial platforms. Major Robert Madyar Brovdi, commander of the Unmanned Systems Forces, confirmed that the attack successfully hit the pre-flight preparation sites, effectively dismantling a hub that served as a core launch point for long-endurance missions.

Strategic Elimination of Orion Drone Assets

The primary objective of the raid was the destruction of the Orion-class unmanned aerial vehicles, which are among Russia’s most capable reconnaissance and strike platforms. These drones are designed for high-altitude, long-endurance operations, capable of remaining airborne for up to 24 hours while carrying a payload of precision-guided munitions. Initial damage assessments indicate that at least four Orion units were completely destroyed. Given the relative scarcity and high production costs of these systems, their removal from the theater represents a significant operational setback for Russian intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance capabilities in the southern sector.

Logistical and Radar Assets Neutralized

Beyond the unmanned platforms, the strike claimed an An-72P transport aircraft, a versatile platform frequently utilized for military logistics and specialized transport roles. The loss of this airframe complicates the Russian military's ability to maintain a consistent operational tempo and resupply forward-deployed units within the Crimean peninsula. Additionally, the mission successfully targeted a P-37 Mech mobile radar system. This two-coordinate radar is essential for wide-area air surveillance, and its elimination is expected to degrade Russian situational awareness and create exploitable gaps in their regional air defense coverage.
