Bumper Grain Harvest Bolsters National Food Security
The State Statistics Service of Ukraine (Derzhstat) has confirmed a significant rebound in the nation’s primary agricultural output for the 2025 season. Total production of grains and leguminous crops reached 61 million tonnes, representing an 8.2% rise compared to 2024 levels. This growth is a critical indicator of the sector's resilience, as farmers navigated ongoing logistical hurdles and varying climatic conditions to deliver a harvest that also slightly exceeded the figures recorded in 2023.
Corn and Wheat Maintain Dominance in Agricultural Output
According to official data, the 2025 harvest was anchored by traditional staples, with corn leading the volume at 30.9 million tonnes. Wheat followed closely with a recorded harvest of 23.3 million tonnes, underscoring its role as a vital export and domestic resource. These two crops accounted for the vast majority of the total gross harvest, reinforcing Ukraine's strategic focus on high-volume grains that are essential for both global supply chains and local stability.
Regional Leaders Drive National Production Totals
The geographical distribution of the 2025 harvest highlights the specific success of central and northern agricultural hubs. Derzhstat identified the Chernihiv, Vinnytsia, and Khmelnytsky regions as the top contributors to the national gross harvest. These areas benefited from more favorable growing conditions compared to the drought-stricken southeastern regions, where the agricultural impact of the war and extreme weather remained more pronounced throughout the season.
