Violent Confrontation in Gyadi-Gyadi
A tense atmosphere enveloped the Gyadi-Gyadi district of Kano on Tuesday following the lynching of two suspected phone snatchers. The incident occurred near Fatima Special Primary School, directly opposite the gates of the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital. Witnesses report that the suspects, both estimated to be in their 20s, were confronted by an angry crowd after allegedly committing two consecutive armed robberies involving mobile devices.
Double Robbery Sparks Public Outrage
According to onlookers, the suspects first targeted a young girl. Overwhelmed by fear and the presence of weapons, the victim reportedly handed over her device without immediate resistance. However, the suspects’ decision to immediately attack a second male passerby drew the attention of nearby residents and commuters. Unlike the first victim, witnesses suggest that the second encounter prompted a more aggressive reaction from the public, who were already on high alert due to a recent spike in similar crimes in the vicinity.
Escalation at the Court Road Roundabout
A Point of Sale (POS) operator stationed near the Court Road roundabout described a scene of extreme provocation. The suspects, allegedly wielding sharp knives, reportedly dared onlookers to challenge them, further incensing a community already frustrated by frequent criminal activity. "It is not the first time phone snatchers would attack people here," the operator noted, explaining that the crowd quickly descended on the pair, beating them until they were unconscious.
