The Asiko Village Disaster
The tragedy struck early Thursday evening as heavy rains saturated the steep terrain of Central Bougainville. Local reports from NBC News confirm that the deceased include:
A family of four: A couple, their son, and their grandchild.
Injuries: Several others, including a pregnant mother, were injured and are currently receiving treatment at the Kakusida Health Centre.
Search and recovery teams have successfully recovered the bodies of the victims, and a formal government assessment is underway to determine the total extent of the damage to infrastructure and agriculture.
