Localized Flooding and Evacuations
Lower Hutt Deputy Mayor Keri Brown has urged residents to "leave without official warning" if they observe rising waters. Intense localized downpours have already caused significant flash flooding in Stokes Valley. Teams are currently monitoring three critical waterways at high risk of bursting their banks:
Hutt River
Waiwhetu Stream
Black Creek (Wainuiomata)
In Porirua, Mayor Anita Baker reported that the intensity of the rain has surpassed recent storm records, leading to rapid inundation of residential properties and public roads.
