Tauranga: Landslide and Flood Risks
Tauranga City Council has closed numerous parks and tracks as a precautionary measure. Residents are being told to move to higher ground immediately if they suspect a landslide is imminent. "If you are feeling unsafe in your property, please self-evacuate to family or friends," the council advised, reminding residents to bring pets and essential medications.
Northland: Dam Rupture and Road Closures
While warnings in Northland have been downgraded to a watch, the region is dealing with significant infrastructure damage.
Dam Breach: A farm dam ruptured on Taupō Bay Road, burying the route in mud and debris.
Roading Status: Flooding has closed several local roads including Oruaiti and Waikare Roads. While State Highways remain open, SH10 near Kāeo and Mangōnui is currently hazardous due to surface flooding.
