Emergency Response to Battle Lake Road
A domestic disturbance in Mart escalated into a dangerous structure fire on Sunday night, requiring a coordinated response from local law enforcement and fire crews. At approximately 11:46 p.m., deputies from the McLennan County Sheriff’s Office arrived at a residence in the 4600 block of Battle Lake Road to assist the Mart Volunteer Fire Department. Upon arrival, first responders found 40 year old Robert Johnson on the property, where a fire had been intentionally set within a bedroom closet.
Sequential Fires and Arrest Affidavit Details
The situation became increasingly volatile as firefighters worked to suppress the initial blaze involving women’s clothing. According to the arrest affidavit, a second fire was ignited in the bathroom while emergency personnel were still on the scene. Witnesses reported seeing Johnson moving in and out of the house during the emergency. Physical evidence further implicated the suspect, as deputies noted Johnson had visible burn marks on his torso and hands that were blackened with ash, matching the residue found at the ignition points.
Seizure of Firearms and Parole Violations
Law enforcement officials discovered a significant cache of weapons during the investigation, complicating Johnson’s legal standing. A Mart police officer observed a shotgun and a cell phone on the ground near a white pickup truck that had previously been secured. Inside the home, authorities located two additional handguns, identified as a Ruger SR40 and a browning 9mm pistol. Johnson, who is currently on parole for a previous conviction involving a prohibited weapon, allegedly admitted to handling the shotgun prior to his arrest.
