Initial Confrontation and Armed Threat
The Mesa County Sheriff’s Department initiated an investigation on Thursday night following a report of a vehicle stuck in a ditch near the intersection of 33 ½ and C ½ Roads in Palisade. According to law enforcement officials, the driver of the stranded vehicle allegedly pointed a gun at a passerby who had approached the scene. By the time deputies arrived at the location, the suspect had managed to free the vehicle and flee the area, prompting a wide scale search throughout the region.
Pursuit and Erratic Driving Reports
As the search intensified, dispatchers began receiving a flurry of calls from concerned citizens reporting a driver operating a vehicle with extreme recklessness. Witnesses observed the suspect speeding and driving erratically near 29 and 30 Roads in the vicinity of the I-70 Business Loop. Authorities quickly determined that the vehicle description provided by callers matched both the car involved in the Palisade threat and a vehicle reported stolen earlier that evening. The reckless behavior posed a significant risk to public safety as the driver moved through heavily trafficked corridors.
Apprehension and Arrest Details
The coordinated effort between the Grand Junction Police Department and the Colorado State Patrol eventually led to a successful interception in Fruitvale. Officers tracked the driver, identified as Manuel Ambriz, to an area off Sunburst Court where he was taken into custody. Despite the high speed nature of the pursuit and the earlier reports of a firearm being brandished, no injuries were reported during the final arrest. Ambriz was transported to the Mesa County Detention Center for processing.
