A Call for Diplomatic Excellence and Global Rebranding

Chief Sunday Adeyemo, the prominent Yoruba activist better known as Sunday Igboho, issued a formal appeal on Saturday to Nigeria’s newly designated ambassadors to prioritize the nation’s global standing. He urged the 65 career and non-career diplomats to utilize their professional expertise as technocrats to alter the current international perception of the country. According to Igboho, these officials must act as catalysts for a positive narrative shift, ensuring that their work at various diplomatic missions reflects a more favorable image of Nigeria despite the ongoing socioeconomic hurdles facing the domestic population.

Strategic Coordination with the Tinubu Administration

The activist emphasized that the success of Nigeria’s foreign policy depends heavily on the collaboration between the newly appointed envoys and the executive branch. In a statement released from Akure, Igboho underscored the importance of the ambassadors working in direct partnership with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He noted that the expertise of these individuals is critical to navigating the complexities of their respective postings, suggesting that their leadership will be the primary factor in determining the effectiveness of Nigeria’s presence on the world stage.

Presidential Appointments and Cross-Tribal Unity

In his address, Igboho advocated for a unified national front, calling on Nigerians of all ethnic and religious backgrounds to project a positive image of the country. This call for unity comes in the wake of the President’s Friday announcement, facilitated by Special Adviser Bayo Onanuga, which detailed the primary assignments for dozens of new representatives. Igboho highlighted that the collective effort of the citizenry and the diplomatic corps is essential for overcoming internal divisions and presenting a cohesive national identity to international partners and investors.
