Arrest Made In Sheepshead Bay Houses Shooting

Law enforcement officials took a sixteen year old male into custody on Tuesday afternoon within the 61st Precinct. The arrest follows a violent encounter on Monday at the Sheepshead Bay Houses located on Avenue X and Brown Street. While the identity of the defendant has been withheld due to his status as a minor, police have processed charges of manslaughter and criminally negligent homicide. Investigators are currently working to determine the exact sequence of events that led to the discharge of the firearm and whether the two teenagers had a prior relationship.

Victim Identified As Local Student Athlete

The victim, identified as sixteen year old Ka’mardre Coleman, was discovered by emergency responders with a gunshot wound to the chest around 6 p.m. on Monday. Despite being transported to a nearby hospital by paramedics, Coleman succumbed to his injuries. His father, Codwell Coleman, described his son as a talented athlete and a good student. The teenager resided in the Nostrand Houses on Bragg Street, situated less than half a mile from the location where the shooting occurred.

Trends In Citywide Youth Gun Violence

The death of Ka’mardre Coleman marks at least the fifth instance of a teenager dying from gun violence in New York City during the first quarter of 2026. This follows a year in which twenty five teenagers lost their lives in shootings across the five boroughs. While citywide figures remain a point of concern for community advocates, NYPD data indicates that homicides and shootings within the 61st Precinct are currently at similar levels to the same period in 2025.
