A Violent Reaction to a Minor Request
The Shreveport Police Department has taken a local woman into custody following a domestic encounter that left a pre-adolescent victim with life-threatening injuries. On March 8, officers responded to a call in the 1200 block of Manor Place regarding a violent disturbance. Upon arrival, investigators learned that the conflict began over a trivial domestic task. Janiyah King reportedly admitted to authorities that she became enraged when a 12-year-old child failed to comply with her instruction to pick up one of her wigs. The ensuing physical escalation resulted in a severe injury that required immediate emergency medical intervention.
Medical Assessment of a "Very Serious" Injury
The severity of the assault was detailed by clinical staff at Willis-Knighton South, where the child was transported for treatment. Doctors informed investigators that the wound to the child’s temple was extraordinarily dangerous. According to medical reports, the strike from a blunt object was so forceful that had it penetrated approximately half an inch deeper, it would have reached the victim's skull. While the child is currently expected to recover, the precision and force of the blow have led investigators to classify the act as a high-level felony rather than a simple domestic battery.
Disparity in Size and Use of a Blunt Object
Shreveport detectives highlighted several aggravating factors in the case, including the significant physical disparity between King and the 12-year-old victim. Police emphasized that King’s much larger stature contributed to the potential lethality of the strike. While the exact nature of the blunt object used in the assault has not been publicly identified, King’s alleged confession included an admission of hitting the child in the head. Officers are currently working to determine how many times the victim was struck during the outburst, as forensic evidence suggests a high-impact encounter.
