A Surge in Military Presence to Secure Shiroro

Senator Sani Musa, the representative for Niger East senatorial district, has announced a significant deployment of additional troops to combat a resurgence of violence in the state. Speaking from the Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida Specialist Hospital in Minna on Saturday, April 11, the Senator stated that he received high-level assurances from security authorities in Abuja before traveling to visit survivors. The reinforcement is a direct response to coordinated assaults on the Shiroro axis, which have shattered a brief period of relative peace in the area.

Casualties and the Scale of the Assault

Recent reports indicate a grim death toll, with at least 60 individuals confirmed dead following the latest wave of violence. The casualties include more than 40 security operatives, highlighting the high-risk nature of the "non-conventional" warfare being waged by the perpetrators. The attacks began on Monday in Lanta village before spreading to Bagna village by Tuesday. Senator Musa condemned the killings in their entirety, noting that the perpetrators targeted both community residents and the personnel tasked with their protection.

Intelligence Sharing as a Key Strategy

The Senator emphasized that while physical troop deployment is necessary, the long-term solution lies in enhanced intelligence sharing and coordinated operations. He maintained that ongoing cooperation between various security agencies is essential to tracking down the perpetrators and preempting future incursions. Musa praised the Niger State Government for its "swift action" in attempting to contain the situation and underscored that protecting the Shiroro axis remains a top federal and state priority.
