Leadership Failure Cited as Root of Security Crisis

During a guest appearance on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily program on Monday, Adewole Adebayo expressed deep concern over the persistent rising insecurity across Nigeria. The former presidential candidate for the Social Democratic Party maintained that the current situation is not inherently complex but is rather a direct consequence of poor governance. He argued that the continuous loss of life has reached a breaking point, stating that citizens are tired of burying people while the state fails to provide basic protection.

Accusations of Political Exploitation of Insecurity

Adebayo accused the current administration of using national insecurity for political advantage rather than taking decisive action to end the violence. He suggested that resources intended for security are being mismanaged, leaving the country vulnerable to domestic threats. According to Adebayo, the government has failed to demonstrate the necessary political will to confront terrorists and criminal elements, despite having the theoretical capacity to protect every Nigerian citizen.

Critique of the Existing Political Structure

The SDP chieftain extended his criticism beyond the ruling party, targeting sections of the opposition as well. He asserted that many politicians across various platforms are part of the same broken system and are incapable of delivering genuine change. Adebayo emphasized that Nigeria requires a comprehensive shift in its political structure rather than a simple rotation of leaders, as the current framework continues to fail integrity and credibility tests.
