Recruitment Through Digital Channels
The Lod-Central District Court has received a formal indictment against Miqdad Natur, a resident of Qalansawe, following a sophisticated counter-intelligence operation. According to the prosecution, the 47-year-old defendant first established contact with a foreign agent using the pseudonym "Abu Ali" during a search for employment in the summer of 2025. Natur had initially sought work as an interpreter for Al Jazeera via Telegram, a network currently banned from operating within Israel. Although his application was rejected by the news organization, an unidentified individual from the channel allegedly referred him to the agent, initiating a months-long digital correspondence.
The "Breaking News" Influence Operation
Under the direct guidance of the foreign operative, Natur reportedly established an Arabic-language Telegram channel titled "Breaking News." Between September 2025 and January 2026, the defendant was allegedly paid a monthly stipend of $250 to publish specific news items curated by the agent. This phase of the operation appeared designed to build a platform for information dissemination before the agent temporarily severed contact in February 2026. The indictment suggests that this early cooperation established a foundation of trust and financial dependency that would later be exploited during the escalation of regional hostilities.
Monitoring Missile Impacts and Infrastructure
Following the outbreak of the ongoing war with Iran, "Abu Ali" reportedly re-established contact with Natur, shifting the focus from news dissemination to active intelligence gathering. The agent allegedly tasked the defendant with compiling detailed reports on the specific locations and casualties resulting from Iranian missile strikes. Beyond the immediate physical damage, the operative requested data on the stability of Israel's national infrastructure, specifically seeking information on water, electricity, and internet outages. The agent also expressed interest in the "rate of expatriation," suggesting a broader interest in the psychological and demographic impact of the conflict on the Israeli public.
