A Keynote Address At Asia's Premier Economic Dialogue

Prime Minister Lawrence Wong is scheduled to arrive in Hainan on Wednesday to participate in the Boao Forum for Asia, an event frequently described as the regional equivalent of the World Economic Forum in Davos. Marking the forum's 25th anniversary, the conference operates under the theme of "Shaping a Shared Future: New Dynamics, New Opportunities, New Cooperation." According to the Prime Minister’s Office, Mr. Wong will deliver a keynote speech during the opening plenary, marking the first time a Singaporean leader has addressed the forum since his predecessor, Lee Hsien Loong, did so in 2023 following the pandemic.

Diplomatic Engagements With Top Chinese Legislative Leadership

Beyond the public forum, the visit facilitates high level bilateral discussions between Singapore and China’s central and provincial authorities. Mr. Wong is set to meet with Zhao Leji, the chairman of the National People's Congress, alongside Feng Fei, the secretary of the Communist Party of China’s Hainan Provincial Committee. These meetings are expected to reinforce ties between the two nations, building upon the momentum of Mr. Wong’s previous official trip to Beijing and Tianjin in June of last year.

Renewing Direct Leadership Ties With The Hong Kong Administration

The second leg of the trip involves a significant stop in Hong Kong, representing the first visit by a Singaporean Prime Minister to the city since 2014. According to official itineraries, Mr. Wong will meet with Chief Executive John Lee for a working lunch and engage with various political and business figures. The visit underscores the deep economic link between the two hubs, as Hong Kong remains among Singapore’s top five global trading partners.
