Jurong Island: Australia’s Unseen Engine Room
Jurong Island is a marvel of land reclamation, formed by merging seven smaller islands into a single petrochemical powerhouse. Despite Singapore having no domestic crude oil reserves, the island’s refining capacity is staggering:
Output: 1.3 million barrels of refined oil per day.
Australian Reliance: Singapore provides 55% of Australia's petrol, 22% of its jet fuel, and 15% of its diesel.
Economic Hub: It hosts over 100 global companies and three major refineries.
Dressed in safety gear, Mr. Albanese inspected the Singapore LNG Corporation facility, guided by CEO Leong Wei Hung. The visit highlighted the reciprocal nature of the relationship; while Australia relies on Singapore for refined fuel, Australia is Singapore’s second-largest supplier of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), providing 32% of the island nation's supply.
