Strengthening Ties At Peduase Lodge

Ghana and Zimbabwe have reached a significant milestone in their diplomatic history with the signing of 10 Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) following high level bilateral talks. The ceremony, held at Peduase Lodge in the Eastern Region, was the centerpiece of Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s three day official visit to Ghana at the invitation of President John Dramani Mahama. Both leaders committed to transforming long standing historical solidarity into a modern, results oriented strategic partnership that addresses current economic and social challenges.

Broad Spectrum Of Cooperation

The newly signed agreements cover a diverse range of sectors essential for national development. Key documents include the adoption of the inaugural session minutes of the Ghana,Zimbabwe Permanent Joint Commission for Cooperation (PJCC) and a pact on political and diplomatic consultations. Furthermore, both nations have agreed to collaborate on research and training through their respective foreign service institutes, alongside shared initiatives in sports, recreation, and archives management. These MoUs are intended to provide a formal structure for continuous institutional engagement.

Economic And Industrial Synergy

A major focus of the talks was the enhancement of trade and investment. A specific MoU was signed between ZimTrade and the Ghana Export Promotion Authority (GEPA) to stimulate cross border commerce. In addition to government to government deals, the private sector made significant strides with an agreement between Ghana’s Zoomlion and Zimbabwe’s Geo Pomona Waste Management. President Mahama highlighted that these partnerships in energy, agriculture, and mining are vital for building a mutually beneficial economic ecosystem driven by private sector participation.
