The PRO Strategy: Continuity and Public Works
The ruling PRO party is centering its narrative on the transition from the previous administration. Party leaders contend that Jorge Macri’s initial term was hampered by a lack of ongoing projects inherited from Horacio Rodríguez Larreta, forcing the mayor to spend his first two years building a foundation from scratch. Now, with several public works reaching execution stages, the "yellow party" believes it has a tangible record to present to voters. Their strategic calculus relies on a divided opposition and the hope that PRO’s historical stronghold in the capital remains impenetrable to outside newcomers.
The Libertarian Challenge and the Bullrich Factor
The most significant threat to PRO's dominance comes from President Javier Milei’s La Libertad Avanza (LLA). While Cabinet Chief Manuel Adorni was once considered a favorite for the seat, recent legal scrutiny regarding his assets has complicated his aspirations. Consequently, attention is shifting toward Senator Patricia Bullrich. Having secured 50 percent of the vote in her recent Senate race, Bullrich maintains a "hard core" of loyalist voters in the City. Her integration into the libertarian ecosystem positions her as a formidable potential head of a coalition that could challenge PRO from the right.
Pan-Peronism and the Search for a Unified Front
In the opposition, Peronist factions are attempting to build a broad alliance to consolidate the progressive and discontented sectors of the city. Leandro Santoro remains the primary figurehead for this movement, following a 2023 performance that proved his ability to reach the runoff stage. Key strategists like City PJ chairman Juan Manuel Olmos are reportedly in discussions to assemble a platform that bridges traditional Peronism with urban progressives who feel alienated by both the Macri administration and the radical proposals of the libertarians.
