Consolidation After Midterm Success
In an interview with the LN+ news channel, Mayor Jorge Macri highlighted the strategic benefits of the right-wing partnership. Following the October 2025 legislative elections, where a unified front between PRO and La Libertad Avanza yielded significant gains, Macri argued that the electorate clearly "rewarded" the parties for their cooperation. He noted that previous instances of running separately resulted in weaker performances, reinforcing his belief that a formal alliance for the 2027 presidential and city elections is a logical step.
Cousin Mauricio Macri's Role in Party Revitalization
Jorge Macri also took the opportunity to praise the work of his cousin, former President and PRO founder Mauricio Macri. He credited Mauricio with "revitalizing" the PRO party and successfully bringing its factions back together after a period of internal division. This consolidation is seen as a necessary first step toward providing a stable "contribution" to President Javier Milei’s administration, which Jorge Macri stated the PRO party firmly wants to see succeed.
Potential Challenges in the 2027 City Race
Despite the current spirit of cooperation, the road to the 2027 election remains complex. Jorge Macri’s own post will be up for re-election, and rumors suggest he could face internal competition from within the libertarian ranks. Potential challengers include Cabinet Chief Manuel Adorni and Senator Patricia Bullrich. Bullrich, once a pillar of the PRO party, made headlines in 2025 when she officially switched her allegiance to Milei’s La Libertad Avanza, signaling a shift in the traditional power dynamics of Buenos Aires politics.
