A Corporate Leader Transitions to Politics
Remi Odunsi, a seasoned business executive and founder of the Eridan Group, has officially announced her candidacy for the House of Representatives seat for Kosofe Federal Constituency in Lagos State. Running on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, Odunsi brings a robust professional background to the race as a graduate of Management and Accounting from the University of Ife and a member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants. Her campaign, announced through her media aide Gbemiga Jacobs on Monday, signals an effort to inject corporate governance and strategic planning into the legislative representation of the constituency.
Legislative Focus on Economic Empowerment
Central to Odunsi’s declaration is a seven-point legislative agenda that prioritizes economic stimulation at the local level. She has pledged to establish two digital skills and enterprise centers intended to provide modern technical training for approximately 10,000 young residents. Furthermore, her platform includes plans to formalize 3,000 micro, small, and medium enterprises, providing them with the legal structure necessary to access credit facilities and digital commerce platforms. Odunsi argues that focusing on these small-scale drivers of the economy is the most effective way to reduce unemployment within Kosofe.
Expanding Existing Philanthropic Initiatives
Odunsi’s entry into elective politics follows years of private philanthropic work through her various empowerment schemes. In 2023, her programs reportedly reached over 4,000 beneficiaries across Ketu, Ikeja, and Epe, providing skill acquisition and support for small-scale traders. Her previous interventions have also included water access projects and food distribution to vulnerable households. She stated that her decision to run for the National Assembly is driven by a desire to scale these interventions through formal policymaking and to ensure that the people of Kosofe have a direct "seat at the table" when national laws are drafted.
