A Unified Front for the 2027 Electoral Cycle
The political atmosphere in Oyo State has been solidified following a high-level strategic meeting of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) at Jagz Hotel, Ibadan. In a move designed to signal stability to both the electorate and the opposition, elected representatives across all levels of government passed a unanimous vote of confidence in Governor Seyi Makinde. This early endorsement serves as a foundation for the party's 2027 strategy, emphasizing internal cohesion and the continuation of the "Seyi Makinde" governance model.
Financial Accountability and Pensioner Welfare
A significant portion of the stakeholders’ commendation focused on the administration’s aggressive debt management and civil service welfare policies. The communiqué, read by State Party Chairman Hon. Dayo Ogungbenro, noted that the Makinde government has successfully cleared ₦36 billion in gratuity backlogs inherited from previous administrations. Furthermore, the Governor provided reassurances that all gratuities accrued during his tenure would be settled in full before the end of his administration, ensuring a clean fiscal slate for his successor.
Infrastructure as a Driver of Economic Expansion
The meeting highlighted the administration's focus on long-term economic corridors, particularly through the Ibadan Circular Road project and the modernization of Ladoke Akintola Airport. Stakeholders argued that these projects are not merely transport links but are essential for stimulating investment and opening new commercial opportunities across the state. According to the party leadership, the upgrade of the airport to international standards is a cornerstone of the administration's vision to position Oyo as a regional hub for trade and aviation.
