A Breakthrough in Internal Party Governance

The All Progressives Congress in Oyo State has achieved a significant milestone in internal stability following the conclusion of its Ward, Local Government, and State Congresses. High-ranking stakeholders from the Ibadan Outer City zone gathered on Tuesday to express their satisfaction with the process, which many feared would mirror the contentious and controversial cycles of 2018 and 2022. The successful execution of these congresses is being framed as a victory for the consensus model recommended by the national secretariat, effectively silencing critics who predicted a fractured party outcome.

Unified Leadership Emerges from Consensus Model

The stakeholders specifically lauded the elevation of Chief Moses Alake Adeyemo, a former deputy governor of Oyo State, to the position of State Chairman. The meeting, which drew chieftains from Akinyele, Egbeda, Ido, Lagelu, Oluyole, and Ona-Ara local government areas, served as a platform to pledge total cooperation to the new executive team. This transition is viewed as a strategic reset intended to unify various factions under a single administrative banner in preparation for the upcoming 2027 general elections.

Demands for Equity in National Zoning

Despite the domestic success, the Ibadan Outer City wing has raised a formal grievance regarding the "evident marginalization" of Oyo State within the broader party hierarchy. In a communique signed by Alhaji Kamorudeen Ajisafe and Bashorun Buliaminu Ogundele, the group argued that the state’s massive voting population and human capital are not reflected in its current representation on the National Executive Committee. They are calling for an immediate review of the zoning arrangements at both the South West Zonal and National levels to ensure justice and fairness.
