Peaceful Transition Strengthens Oyo APC Internal Cohesion
Key stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) across the outer city geo-political zones of Oyo State have lauded the party’s leadership for the violence-free conduct of its recent congresses. Representing the local government areas of Akinyele, Egbeda, Ido, Lagelu, Oluyole, and Ona-Ara, the group noted that the successful exercise across 351 wards has effectively silenced critics. In a communiqué led by Chairman Alhaji Kamorudeen Ajisafe and Secretary Bashorun Buliaminu Ogundele, the stakeholders highlighted that the adoption of a consensus arrangement—recommended by the national secretariat—was instrumental in avoiding the friction seen in previous cycles.
New Leadership Emerges Under Former Deputy Governor Adeyemo
The congress concluded with the emergence of the former Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Chief Moses Alake Adeyemo, as the new State Chairman. The stakeholders expressed a high degree of confidence in Adeyemo’s ability to unite the party’s diverse interests ahead of the 2027 general elections. However, the group also issued a mandate to the new chairman, urging him to prioritize the resolution of lingering disputes in specific local government areas with total objectivity. The successful transition is seen as a pivotal moment for the party as it seeks to reclaim its dominant position in the state's political hierarchy.
Protest Against Marginalization in National Zoning
Despite the internal success, the communiqué raised significant concerns regarding the perceived exclusion of Oyo State from key positions at both the South-West zonal and National Executive Committee (NEC) levels. The stakeholders argued that given Oyo’s substantial voting strength, population, and strategic human resources, the current distribution of party roles is inequitable. They called on the APC national leadership to urgently review the zoning arrangements established during the last national convention to ensure that the state receives its fair share of influence within the party’s national structure.
