Support For Infrastructure Development
Ohanaeze Ndigbo has intervened in the high-profile dispute between the Minister of Works, David Umahi, and Stella Okengwu, the CEO of Winhomes Global Services. The disagreement centers on the construction of the Lagos-Calabar Super Highway and its perceived impact on private investments located along the project’s route. In a statement released on Saturday, the group’s leadership expressed full confidence in the Minister’s handling of the national infrastructure project, urging aggrieved parties to cease what they described as a campaign of calumny against Southeast political figures.
Allegations Of Sponsored Attacks
The socio-political group, through its Deputy President General Okechukwu Isiguzoro and National Spokesman Thompson Ohia, alleged that the attacks on Umahi are not isolated incidents. Following what they described as a thorough investigation, the group claimed that these criticisms are orchestrated by external interests seeking to derail the progress being made in the Southeast. Ohanaeze warned that targeting regional leaders serves only to undermine the collective interests of Ndigbo within the federal government and creates unnecessary internal friction.
A Defense Of Professional Competence
In its statement, Ohanaeze Ndigbo highlighted Umahi’s professional background as a civil engineer and successful entrepreneur prior to his entry into politics. The group noted that his track record as a consultant and contractor provides him with the necessary expertise to oversee complex federal road projects. They pointed to his previous roles as a state party chairman, Deputy Governor, and two-term Governor of Ebonyi State as evidence of a career built on tangible results rather than political rhetoric.
