Interception During Routine Security Operations
Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command’s Quick Response Squad intercepted a 13 year old boy on Sunday, April 5, 2026, during a targeted stop and search operation. The interception occurred at approximately 11:00 AM along the Shagamu, Ogijo Road axis near the Lafarge area. Police officials noted that the minor was traveling in a tricycle when officers flagged down the vehicle for a standard inspection. This area has remained a focal point for security maneuvers aimed at curbing the transport of illicit items within the region.
Discovery of Illicit Weaponry and Tactical Gear
During the physical search of the teenage suspect, security operatives recovered a locally made pistol along with a single live cartridge. In addition to the firearm, officers found a mask in the boy's possession. According to a statement released by Police Public Relations Officer DSP Oluseyi Babasiyi, the minor was unable to provide a coherent or legitimate explanation for the presence of these items at the time of the initial discovery. The combination of a concealed firearm and a mask often serves as a red flag for law enforcement regarding potential intent for criminal activity.
Chain of Custody and Parental Involvement
Upon further questioning by the operatives, the minor disclosed that the illegal firearm belonged to his father, 38 year old Joseph Kehinde. This admission prompted an immediate expansion of the investigation, resulting in the swift arrest of the older suspect. The police have emphasized the gravity of involving a minor in the possession or transport of dangerous weapons. Both individuals were subsequently processed and transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department to undergo more rigorous questioning and to establish the origin of the pistol.
