The Ogun State Government has officially commenced the migration of its Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to a unified Sovereign Cloud platform. This strategic move was announced by Dayo Abiodun, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Information and Communication Technology, during a high level workshop in Abeokuta. The transition is designed to consolidate the digital operations of the entire state civil service, creating a single, secure environment for government activities. By moving away from fragmented digital systems, the state aims to modernize its administrative capacity and improve the overall speed of public service delivery.

Localization of Data to Mitigate International Jurisdictional Risks

A primary objective of the new Sovereign Cloud is to ensure that sensitive government documents and historical records remain within Nigerian borders. Mrs. Olatundun Adekunte, representing the ICT office, noted that for too long, cloud services have been managed on foreign servers governed by international laws. By hosting the data center at the Ogun TechHub in Abeokuta, the state government gains direct supervision over its information assets. This localization strategy is intended to protect the state against the legal and security vulnerabilities associated with storing classified information on infrastructure subject to foreign jurisdictions.

Military Grade Encryption and Accountability in Revenue Management

The technical framework of the Ogun State Sovereign Cloud has been developed in partnership with GetFunded Africa and features advanced security protocols. According to ICT officials, the platform utilizes military grade encryption and multi factor authentication to safeguard state secrets and financial records. Furthermore, the system includes a unified revenue dashboard that provides real time oversight of government earnings across all MDAs. Every digital interaction on the platform is logged, which the government maintains will foster a new level of transparency and accountability in the management of public funds and official correspondence.
