A Symbolic Return to Wadata Plaza

In a move aimed at signaling party unity, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, visited the national secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abuja this Friday. The visit to the Wadata Plaza headquarters follows extensive renovations of the facility and serves as a public show of support for the current National Working Committee (NWC). Wike, a prominent national leader within the party, was received by the NWC members as the party continues its efforts to stabilize following a period of intense internal friction.

Pledging Loyalty and Strategic Support

During his meeting with the party leadership, Wike was vocal about his commitment to the PDP’s recovery. He emphasized that the post-election period is a time for all members to provide moral and structural support to the leadership. "I’ve come here to pledge my support and my loyalty to all of you," Wike stated, reassuring the NWC that he remains a dedicated stakeholder in the party’s future success. He acknowledged that while the party has nearly emerged from its recent crisis, the path forward will require significant "hard work and sacrifice."

Reclaiming the Defected Rank and File

A primary focus of Wike’s address was the retrieval of members who left the PDP for other political platforms during the height of the internal crisis. He urged the NWC to be proactive in their reconciliation efforts, suggesting the formation of a high-level team to engage directly with those who have defected. Wike noted that many left under the assumption that the party would not bounce back, and he tasked the leadership with restoring confidence among former members to attract them back into the fold before the next election cycle.
