Disavowal of the Ibadan Opposition Coalition

The New Nigeria Peoples Party has categorically rejected the resolutions reached during last Saturday’s opposition political parties’ summit in Ibadan, Oyo State. Speaking at a news conference in Abuja on Monday, Dr. Agbo Major stated that the NNPP was neither invited nor involved in any official capacity. The party leadership emphasized that any agreements made during the summit regarding a joint presidential candidate for 2027 do not bind the NNPP, as no recognized leaders of the institution participated in the gathering.

Concerns Over Political Impersonation

Dr. Major raised alarms regarding the presence of expelled individuals at the Ibadan summit who allegedly used the NNPP name to gain political relevance. He cautioned the coalition’s leadership against allowing "impostors" to misrepresent the party’s stance. Specifically, the faction condemned the actions of the Kwankwassiya group, noting that several courts, including the Court of Appeal in Owerri, have already affirmed the dismissal of Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and his associates from the party.

Demands for INEC Compliance with Court Rulings

The NNPP faction has formally requested the Independent National Electoral Commission to update its official portal to reflect the duly recognized National Working Committee. Major warned that continued failure by INEC to comply with existing court judgments from Abia and the FCT could lead the party to join calls for the removal of the commission’s chairman. The leadership argued that administrative delays in recognizing the legitimate NWC undermine internal democracy and the rule of law within the Nigerian electoral system.
