Market Performance Amidst Holiday Schedule
The Nigerian equities market demonstrated significant resilience during the second week of April 2026, with investors gaining a cumulative 1.36 trillion Naira. Trading was restricted to four sessions following a federal public holiday on Monday, April 7, which was declared to commemorate the Easter celebration. Despite the shortened week, total market capitalisation surged from 129.8 trillion Naira to close at 131.1 trillion Naira. This upward trajectory was mirrored by the All-Share Index, which appreciated by 1.03%, moving from 201,698.89 points to a weekly close of 203,770.43 points.
Sectoral Dominance Of Financial Services
Activity on the floor of the Exchange was heavily concentrated in the Financial Services Industry, which led the charts by both volume and value. The sector saw a turnover of 2.303 billion shares valued at 90.467 billion Naira, executed in 98,175 separate deals. These figures represent a massive 68.54% of the total equity turnover volume for the week. Following the financial sector, the Services Industry and the ICT Industry secured the second and third positions, contributing 264.146 million and 214.578 million shares respectively to the weekly totals.
Top Traded Equities And Institutional Volume
A significant portion of the week’s liquidity was driven by three major financial institutions: Access Holdings Plc, Wema Bank Plc, and Guaranty Trust Holding Company Plc. Together, these top three equities accounted for 1.124 billion shares worth 49.451 billion Naira. Their combined performance represented 33.45% of the total equity turnover volume. In total, investors traded 3.361 billion shares worth 151.948 billion Naira across the entire week, a notable increase from the 2.856 billion shares valued at 113.597 billion Naira recorded during the previous week.
