Targeted Strikes in Ajali Forest
In a coordinated effort to dismantle the operational base of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), troops of the 82 Division conducted intensive clearance operations in the Ajali Forest. The mission, supported by the 103 Battalion and the Air Component, focused on the Ezeagu local council area. Military sources confirmed that the objective was to deny criminal elements freedom of action in the dense forest terrain. To ensure the permanent disruption of these enclaves, troops utilized bulldozers and chainsaws to clear paths and destroy fortified hideouts, effectively reducing the insurgents' ability to use the forest as a staging ground for regional attacks.
Recovery of High-Yield Explosives
A critical breakthrough during the operation was the discovery of an anti-tank improvised explosive device (IED) strategically placed along the forest axis. The Nigerian Army reported that the device was designed to target heavy military vehicles and personnel. Highlighting the volatility of the find, the operational report noted that the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team had to move the IED to a secure location after three failed attempts to detonate it safely on-site. The recovery prevents a significant threat to both security forces and civilians using the nearby transportation corridors, marking a major success for Operation UDO KA’s efforts to stabilize the South-East.
Intelligence-Led Raid and Ransom Recovery
Simultaneously, troops stationed at Adani in the Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area executed a raid based on actionable electronic intelligence. Security reports indicated that ransom money for a kidnapped victim had been electronically tracked to a specific location near the military's deployment zone. Swift mobilization led to the apprehension of a suspect’s relative at the scene. A subsequent search of the residence yielded a pump-action rifle and N2 million in cash, believed to be the tracked ransom payment. This operation underscores the military's increasing reliance on digital forensics and electronic tracking to combat the rising trend of kidnapping for ransom in the region.
