A Decisive Pivot Toward Educational Efficiency
In a major departure from traditional bureaucratic procedures, the National Examination Board has authorized the grading of Secondary Education Examination answer sheets at local examination centers. Chudamani Paudel, secretary at the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, confirmed that the board now requires subject marking to be completed within a strict three-day window following each exam. This policy represents a fundamental shift in how Nepal manages its national academic assessments, prioritizing speed and regional autonomy over the centralized, slower logistics of previous years.
Localized Logistics Replace Provincial Transport Cycles
The new directive allows for immediate processing of academic papers, significantly reducing the risk and time associated with transporting sensitive documents across district lines. According to Paudel, in instances where on-site grading is not feasible, papers must be delivered to the district Education Development and Coordination Unit on the very same day the exam is held. By authorizing these local units to decide the most efficient venue for marking, the board is attempting to eliminate the two-month administrative lag that historically plagued the national results cycle.
Ambitious Timeline For National Results Publication
The overarching objective of this localized strategy is to shorten the total turnaround time for national results to just one month. Board officials have indicated that if the accelerated marking schedule is maintained, Secondary Education Examination results could be available to the public by mid-May. This initiative follows a direct mandate from Education Minister Sasmit Pokharel, who has pressured the board to modernize its data verification and entry processes to ensure students can transition to higher education without the typical summer delays.
