Strategic Alliance for National Value Reorientation

The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has announced a reinforced commitment to civic education and national identity building through a new partnership with the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ). During a strategic meeting in Abuja on Saturday, NOA Director-General Lanre Issa-Onilu described the collaboration as a vital step toward preparing the electorate for the 2027 general elections. He noted that effective nation-building relies on strong synergy between public communication institutions and organized professional bodies like NAWOJ.

Targeting the Youth Demographic and Digital Influences

A primary focus of the new partnership is the Nigerian youth, specifically those under the age of 35. Issa-Onilu expressed concern over the impact of foreign media and unregulated digital content, which he suggested are reshaping national values in ways that could undermine social cohesion. To counter this, the NOA plans to implement structured civic engagement programs designed to foster patriotism and ethical responsibility among young voters. The agency aims to leverage its grassroots network of over 800 offices to reach citizens across all 774 local government areas.

The "Seven-for-Seven" National Values Charter

The Director-General disclosed key components of the "Nigerian Identity Project" under the National Values Charter. This initiative is built on a "seven-for-seven" principle of mutual responsibility between the state and its citizens. As part of this charter, the Federal Executive Council has approved the reintroduction of Citizenship Studies into the national school curriculum. This move is intended to ensure that the next generation of Nigerians is grounded in indigenous culture and the principles of national unity from an early age.
