Opposition Leadership Denounces Governor’s Strategic Political Alignment
A significant rift has emerged in Anambra State politics as the local leadership of the All Progressives Congress formally questioned the sincerity of Governor Charles Soludo’s relationship with the presidency. During a press conference held on Friday, APC state chairman Senator Emma Anosike characterized Soludo,s frequent declarations of support for President Bola Tinubu as a deceptive tactic. According to Anosike, while the governor publicly aligns himself with the "progressive" agenda of the federal government, his administration continues to marginalize APC members within the state.
Allegations of Federal Favor Seeking Without Local Reciprocity
The APC leadership contends that the governor, who serves as the national leader of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, is leveraging the President’s reputation to maintain influence at the national level. Anosike alleged that despite Soludo’s rhetoric regarding working together, the governor has failed to provide the APC with any significant role or "breathing space" within the Anambra State government. The party chairman suggested that this dual approach is designed to reap the benefits of federal patronage without offering any genuine political concessions to the President’s party on the ground.
Ultimatum Issued for APGA Members to Defect to Ruling Party
In a direct challenge to the governor,s political standing, Senator Anosike stated that true cooperation with the President must be reflected in the composition of the National Assembly. He argued that if Soludo is genuinely committed to working with the Tinubu administration, he should direct his followers to join the APC and contest future elections under its banner. The chairman insisted that if the governor believes progressives are truly working together, there should be no reason for his supporters to maintain a separate party identity that competes against the federal ruling party.
