Tragedy Strikes Akyawa and Udege Kasa Communities

A violent communal clash has left at least 11 people dead and dozens of families homeless in the Nasarawa Local Government Area. According to SP Ramhan Nansel, spokesperson for the Nasarawa State Police Command, the incident occurred on the morning of Friday, April 3, 2026. Suspected hoodlums targeted the Akyawa and Udege Kasa communities in what has been described as a reprisal attack linked to the alleged killing of two of their kinsmen earlier in the week.

On-the-Spot Assessment and Government Response

Commissioner of Police (CP) Shetima Mohammed led a high-level security team to the affected areas on Saturday to assess the scale of the devastation. During the visit, the CP confirmed that approximately 52 houses were razed by fire during the assault. Mohammed expressed profound sorrow over the loss of life and visited with grieving families, promising that the state would not rest until those responsible for the "heinous act" are brought to justice.

Security Reinforcement and Manhunt Operations

In immediate response to the violence, the CP has ordered an intensive manhunt for the perpetrators. Tactical teams and specialized investigative units have been deployed to identify and arrest the hoodlums responsible for the killings and arson. To prevent further escalations or counter-attacks, the Command has directed a sustained reinforcement of personnel in the affected districts, supported by a collaborative effort involving the Military and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
