Fatal Escalation Over Farmland Resources In Karu

The Nasarawa State Police Command has confirmed a lethal confrontation in the Unguwan Yobe community of Aso Fada, resulting in the loss of three lives. According to SP Ramhan Nansel, the Command’s public relations officer, the violence erupted on March 25, 2026, following a dispute over agricultural property. The conflict reportedly began when 17 year old Ado Yau was fatally shot during an altercation involving the harvesting of mango tree leaves for cattle feed. This initial act of violence served as the catalyst for a broader communal disturbance that quickly overwhelmed local security near the federal capital boundary.

The Triggers Of A Deadly Reprisal Attack

The situational report provided by the police indicates that the confrontation was sparked by a disagreement between herders and a local resident, identified as Sunday Adoye. After the herders were seen cutting foliage on Adoye's property, a heated argument ensued. According to official statements, Adoye allegedly retreated to his home to retrieve a pump action firearm, which was subsequently used to kill the teenage herder instantly. The news of the killing spread rapidly, prompting a massive mobilization of herders who launched a retaliatory strike against the Unguwan Yobe community, leading to widespread property destruction.

Casualties and Significant Infrastructure Damage

As the reprisal unfolded, the scale of the violence expanded beyond personal disputes to include arson and physical assault. Police records show that four individuals sustained various injuries, while the community suffered the loss of four residential buildings, two vehicles, and three motorcycles, all of which were set ablaze. In the chaos that followed, two additional victims, 25 year old Muhammadu Ibrahim and 18 year old Ado Gambo, lost their lives during the intervention by military units deployed to quell the riot. Emergency responders evacuated the deceased and injured to a medical facility in Mararaba for treatment and formal examination.
