A Statistical Defense Of Ruling Party Dominance
Governor Abdullahi Sule has formally countered the narrative that the African Democratic Congress is becoming a formidable rival to the APC. Speaking during a television appearance on Politics Today, Sule characterized the ADC’s rising profile as a recurring phenomenon in Nigerian politics where the "opposition goalpost" is constantly shifted. He argued that from a purely logistical and administrative standpoint, a party that currently controls 31 states across the federation cannot be reasonably threatened by an opposition platform that has yet to secure a single governorship.
Addressing Criticisms Of National Insecurity
The ADC has frequently used the current state of national insecurity to challenge the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Acknowledging the severity of these challenges, Governor Sule pivoted the conversation toward structural reform. He identified the establishment of state policing as the most viable long-term strategy for stabilizing the country. According to Sule, the focus of the administration is not on political rhetoric but on the legislative and constitutional processes required to decentralize law enforcement and empower local authorities.
Near Unanimous Gubernatorial Support For State Policing
Providing insight into high-level policy discussions, Sule revealed that the proposal for state policing has achieved unprecedented consensus among state leaders. At the National Economic Council (NEC) level, 35 out of 37 governors—including the FCT—have reportedly signed off on the initiative. Sule explained that the current delay in implementation is not due to a lack of political will but the complex legal requirements involved. The transition requires constitutional amendments through the National Assembly and subsequent ratification by state assemblies nationwide.
