A weeks long search for a missing Alabama toddler has taken a dark turn as law enforcement officials announced a significant escalation in charges. Adrienne Reid, the mother of two year old Genesis Reid, was formally charged with capital murder and abuse of a corpse on Monday. Genesis was initially reported missing on February 16, but investigators now believe the child was killed months earlier. According to charging documents, the alleged murder occurred on December 25, shortly after the child had returned from visiting relatives in Dothan.

Video Evidence Leads To Landfill Search Operations

The shift in the investigation was triggered by the discovery of video footage that Enterprise Police Chief Michael Moore described as pivotal. The video reportedly captures Adrienne Reid throwing a duffel bag containing her daughter's remains into a commercial dumpster. Sheriff Scott Byrd announced that a specialized team of experts from Atlanta will arrive this week to assist in a meticulous search of a 200 square foot area where the remains are believed to be located.

Coffee County District Attorney James Tarbox has confirmed that his office intends to seek the death penalty in this case.
