Strategic Expansion of Youth Early Intervention
A primary pillar of the new investment is the commitment to early intervention for young people. Minister Butler confirmed the allocation of €1.3 million in recurring funding to establish two new Jigsaw youth mental health services in County Waterford (serving the South-East) and County Clare.
In addition to the Jigsaw expansion, the package funds the creation of five new mental health "Discovery Colleges." These centers, modeled after the existing facility in County Roscommon, utilize a peer-led approach where workshops are co-produced by professionals and individuals with lived experience. These colleges are designed to support the wellbeing of young people aged 12 to 25 in an informal, community-driven environment.
Pioneering Digital and Community-Based Support
For the first time, a dedicated €1 million fund has been established specifically for community-based talk therapy services. This investment is directed toward local organizations providing psychotherapy and counseling, complementing the €2 million recurring fund previously secured to provide 15,000 counseling sessions for men.
The digital component of the package focuses on modernizing access to care. Key digital initiatives include:
