Vehicle Theft and Fraudulent Transactions in the District

The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) has launched an investigation into a coordinated incident of theft and financial fraud occurring across multiple D.C. neighborhoods. On February 15, at approximately 12:30 p.m., an unknown individual broke into a parked vehicle at the intersection of 13th Street and North Carolina Avenue, Northeast. During the breach, several items of value were removed from the victim’s car. The investigation quickly shifted from a simple property crime to a fraud case when the victim’s stolen credit card was utilized for unauthorized purchases later that same day.

Surveillance Capture and Suspect Identification Efforts

Following the initial report, detectives tracked the activity of the stolen financial instruments to the 2700 block of Marion Barry Avenue, Southeast. Security cameras at a local establishment captured clear images of a suspect utilizing the stolen credit card. The MPD has released this footage to the public in hopes that residents or business owners in the area can provide a positive identification. The suspect is seen in the surveillance media engaging in transactions during the afternoon hours of the day the property was stolen.

Strategic Reward Offered for Information

To incentivize community cooperation, the Metropolitan Police Department is offering a financial reward of up to $1,000. This reward is available to any individual who provides information that directly leads to the arrest and indictment of the person responsible for these offenses. Law enforcement officials emphasize that informants can remain anonymous and that the focus remains on closing the case (CCN: 26020915) through corroborated community tips.
