A New Tier of Luxury at the V&A Waterfront
The Cape Town Edition hotel and private residences are poised to redefine the ultra-luxury hospitality landscape in South Africa. Scheduled to open in October 2026, this development marks the first Marriott Edition property in Africa, joining an elite global portfolio found in gateway cities such as Tokyo, London, and New York. The project is a strategic expansion for Marriott International, which already operates several upscale brands in the region, including the Autograph Collection and The Westin.
Infrastructure for the Global Superyacht Market
Central to the development is the new Quay 7 Superyacht Marina, a R230 million investment by the V&A Waterfront. The marina is designed to meet the growing demand for high-capacity berths, which has seen steady growth since 2009. During the peak season, the facility will provide six stern-to and two beam-on berths capable of hosting vessels ranging from 40 to 90 meters. This infrastructure addresses a critical market reality, as the Waterfront welcomed 35 superyachts during the 2024/25 season alone.
Supporting the Local Marine Economy
Beyond catering to international billionaires, the Quay 7 Marina will serve as a vital hub for Cape Town’s globally competitive catamaran manufacturing industry. During the off-season, the facility will be utilized for the commissioning and export staging of vessels built by local manufacturers such as Robertson and Caine and Two Oceans Marine. By providing dedicated deep-water berths for these builders, the marina strengthens Cape Town’s role in the marine services sector and the broader ocean economy.
