Ten Minutes to Survival
The flood hit with what Bocock described as "crazy loud, crazy fast" intensity. Standing on a toilet in his ensuite to peer out the window, he witnessed the moment the water breached the property.
The Escape: Bocock, his partner, and three teenage children were forced to wade through floating furniture to escape. In a surreal moment of domestic rescue, they fled the house at 4:00 AM holding their pet rabbits above their heads to reach the higher ground of Happy Valley Road.
The Devastation: Returning to the property in daylight, the family found a high-water mark etched a metre up the walls. Inside, silt and mud are 30cm deep, coating decades of personal history.
Irreplaceable Loss: While laptops and linen are replaceable, Bocock’s collection of artbooks the culmination of decades of work and original photo albums from his high school and university years have been destroyed by the contaminated water.
