Fatal Morning Collision in Atlantic Beach
A quiet Tuesday morning in Atlantic Beach turned tragic when a bicyclist was struck and killed by a motorist who failed to stop. According to Nassau County police, the incident occurred around 7:30 a.m. on Beech Street near the intersection of Scott Drive. The victim, a male whose identity is being withheld pending family notification, sustained catastrophic injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders.
Joint Investigation Leads to Suspect's Vehicle
The apprehension of the suspect followed a coordinated investigation between the Nassau County Police Department and the Long Beach Police Department. According to investigators, digital evidence and witness accounts helped authorities identify a 2019 Honda HRV as the vehicle involved in the collision. Shortly after the incident, officers located the vehicle and its owner, Erin Henry, at her residence in Long Beach, where she was taken into custody without further incident.
Charges and Arraignment Details
Erin Henry, 67, is facing significant legal consequences for her alleged role in the fatal crash and her subsequent departure from the scene. According to police officials, she has been formally charged with Leaving the Scene of an Incident Causing a Death. Henry is currently being held by Nassau County authorities and is scheduled to be arraigned on Wednesday morning at the First District Court in Hempstead.
