The Apprehension of a Primary Suspect
A week-long investigation into a tragic road fatality in Khulna has resulted in the successful detention of the individual allegedly responsible for the crash. Additional Police Commissioner Mohammad Zahidul Hasan of the Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) confirmed on Monday that officers had taken Md Ahad Sheikh Saikat into custody. The 26-year-old was located in the Hadis Park area on April 5, following a coordinated effort by local law enforcement to track his movements after the incident. This arrest marks a significant advancement in a case that has drawn considerable attention from the local academic community, particularly within the legal discipline of the city's primary university.
A Fatal Evening on KD Ghosh Road
The incident occurred during the early evening hours of March 30, as the victim, Moumita Halder, was traveling via rickshaw with her father. At approximately 6:50 pm, while the pair were transiting toward the local court area, a speeding private car struck their vehicle from behind in front of the Zila Parishad Bhaban. The force of the impact on KD Ghosh Road caused Halder, a Master’s student of Law at Khulna University, to be thrown from the rickshaw, resulting in critical head trauma. Despite being rushed to Khulna Medical College Hospital, she was pronounced dead by medical staff roughly one hour after the collision.
Forensic Identification and Vehicle Recovery
The breakthrough in the investigation came through the meticulous review of surrounding surveillance systems. Sub-Inspector Debabrata Biswas, the designated investigating officer, analyzed CCTV footage from the vicinity of the Zila Parishad Bhaban to pinpoint the exact vehicle involved in the crash. On April 3, police successfully located and seized a blue Toyota car hidden in a garage situated behind Coronation School. The recovery of the physical evidence, combined with the use of information technology to track the driver, allowed the Khulna Sadar Police Station to build a comprehensive case against the suspect, who had initially fled the scene of the accident.
