Successive Gun Violence in Residential Neighborhoods
Lexington law enforcement managed two separate crime scenes on Tuesday as a wave of gun violence resulted in two hospitalizations within a five-hour window. The first incident drew a heavy police presence to a residential intersection, while the second occurred at a multi-unit housing complex. In both cases, emergency medical teams provided on-site stabilization before transporting the victims to regional trauma centers.
The Cantrill Drive Incident
The initial shooting was reported just after 5:30 PM on the 1700 block of Cantrill Drive, specifically at the intersection with Green Hills Road. Responding officers discovered a male victim suffering from a gunshot wound. While the severity of the injury required immediate hospitalization, police stated the wounds are not currently considered life-threatening. As of Tuesday night, investigators had not released a description of a suspect or a potential motive for the violence at this location.
The West Sixth Street Incident
At approximately 8:40 PM, a second call for service led officers to the Coolavin Apartments located on the 500 block of West Sixth Street. Upon arrival, police located another man with a gunshot wound. Similar to the earlier shooting, the victim’s injuries were deemed non-life-threatening by medical professionals. In a significant development for this specific case, the Lexington Police Department announced via social media that they have successfully identified all parties involved in the West Sixth Street shooting, suggesting a more contained or domestic nature to the dispute.
