Community Outrage Following Fatal Domestic Violence Suspicions
The Nigeria Police Force has taken a couple into custody in the Igando area of Lagos state after the suspicious death of a ten year old child under their care. The girl, identified as Faith, was reportedly an adopted member of the household located on Jemesi Papa Street in the Egan district. CSP Amori Fatai, the Divisional Police Officer for the Igando Police Station, confirmed the arrests took place on the morning of April 27, 2026, after local residents intervened to prevent the disposal of the deceased.
Allegations of Prolonged Physical Mistreatment and Neglect
Local accounts suggest that the child had been subjected to a consistent pattern of physical assault and forced labor prior to her passing. According to a community witness named Adeyemi, the girl had been suffering from an illness for approximately two weeks leading up to the fatal incident. Despite her deteriorating health, the guardians allegedly continued to inflict physical punishment, culminating in a severe beating the day before she was pronounced dead at a local medical facility.
Foiled Attempt to Secretly Dispose of Child Remains
Evidence gathered from the scene indicates that the suspects attempted to cover up the circumstances of the death. After the girl died, the male suspect, Onyema Paul, reportedly sought out a tricycle to transport the body away from the residence. However, vigilant community youths apprehended the female suspect, Adline Ogbonna, and waited for the husband to return with the vehicle. The group detained both individuals until police officers arrived at the Egan premises to recover the body and secure the site.
