Internal Frictions Emerge Over Early 2027 Endorsements
The Mandate Movement (TMM), a prominent group within the Lagos State All Progressives Congress, has formally cautioned party leadership against the undemocratic imposition of candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections. During a stakeholders' meeting on Monday at his Lagos residence, TMM leader Muraina Taiwo declared that the group would resist any attempts to bypass established party structures for individual interests. This warning follows reports of early alignment by various factions seeking to solidify their influence within the state's political hierarchy.
Dispute Over Justice Forum Caucus Actions
The current tension was sparked by a rival APC caucus, the Justice Forum, which reportedly held an endorsement program on Friday in the Oshodi-Isolo Constituency 2. During that event, the caucus declared support for various aspirants and the sitting member of the Lagos State House of Assembly. Taiwo, who is also a member of the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC), claimed that The Mandate Movement was neither informed nor invited to the proceedings, characterizing the move as a deliberate attempt to marginalize key stakeholders.
Demands for Transparency and Structural Fairness
In response to what he described as a recurring pattern of exclusion, Taiwo called for the immediate establishment of a Constituency Consensus Committee. He demanded that this committee feature equal representation from both the TMM and Justice Forum caucuses to ensure that candidate selection remains credible and fair. The leader emphasized that while the Electoral Act 2025 and APC guidelines allow for consensus, such arrangements require the broad participation of all party factions rather than a monopoly by a single group.
