Witnessing the Smart Economy in Shanghai

Leading a delegation from the Chinese Kuomintang (KMT) party, Chairwoman Cheng Li-wun arrived in Shanghai this week to explore the city's rapidly evolving technological landscape. The delegation's tour began at the Shanghai headquarters of Meituan, a major on demand delivery platform, where members observed the latest in drone based logistics. Cheng personally experienced the convenience of the mainland's smart economy by ordering milk tea via the platform, characterizing the innovation as a testament to the creativity and vitality present in Shanghai today.

Exploration of Strategic Industrial Hubs

The tour continued with visits to several of Shanghai's most critical infrastructure and industrial sites. On Thursday, the delegation visited Yangshan Port, a primary hub for global maritime trade, followed by a trip to the Shanghai Aircraft Design and Research Institute. This facility operates under the Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC), the manufacturer responsible for the C919, China's domestically developed narrow body passenger jet. These visits underscored the depth of the mainland's industrial modernization and its growing self reliance in strategic sectors.

The Power of Peace and Mutual Trust

Speaking to reporters following the tours, Cheng reflected on Shanghai's historical transformation from a wartime city to a global financial and tech hub. She asserted that peace is the fundamental driver of such progress, stating that given enough time, peace makes any achievement possible. Cheng urged leaders and citizens on both sides of the Taiwan Strait to remain steadfast in their commitment to peaceful development, suggesting that continued goodwill is essential for navigating modern geopolitical challenges.
