Opposition Voice Denounces Pro Administration Support Group
In a sharp critique of the current political landscape, veteran actor and opposition figure Kenneth Okonkwo has dismissed the City Boy Movement as a collection of individuals seeking personal gain over principle. Speaking on Symfoni TV, Okonkwo characterized the group, which supports President Bola Tinubu’s re-election efforts, as political scavengers. He suggested that their alignment with the presidency is a pursuit of crumbs falling from the leader’s table, rather than a genuine effort toward national development or representation.
Rejection of the Movement by the Igbo Community
Okonkwo asserted that the Ndigbo have formally distanced themselves from the pro government movement, framing its activities as a slight against their cultural heritage. He argued that the support shown by certain regional politicians does not reflect the will of the broader Igbo population. According to Okonkwo, the actions of these individuals represent a departure from the traditional dignity associated with the region, claiming that the Igbo people have effectively rejected the movement’s presence and influence.
Dignity and Cultural Identity as Political Contrast
The veteran politician utilized cultural symbols to highlight his disdain for those seeking political patronage through the movement. Okonkwo stated that the Igbo wear the Isiagu as a symbol of their history as hunters who seek food with dignity. In his view, those aligning with the City Boy Movement are behaving like vultures scavenging for meat, a metaphor he used to contrast the perceived desperation of political appointees with the independent spirit he attributes to his community.
