Sweeping Reforms at AFUSTA

The Kebbi State Government has implemented a major leadership overhaul at the Abdullahi Fodio University of Science and Technology, Aliero (AFUSTA). Effective April 30, 2026, the State Executive Council dissolved the university's Governing Council and terminated the appointments of its top executive officers. This decisive action follows the submission and review of a report by a visitation panel previously tasked with evaluating the institution's administrative and academic affairs.

Removal of Principal Officers

The restructuring has resulted in the removal of the Vice-Chancellor along with the Deputy Vice-Chancellors overseeing Academics and Administration. In addition to the academic leadership, the state government relieved the university’s Registrar and Bursar of their positions. The Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Yakubu Bala-Tafida, confirmed that these terminations were a direct response to the findings and recommendations of the panel. The appointment of Abba Muhammad Adua was also formally terminated as part of the purge.

Appointment of a Sole Administrator

To prevent an administrative vacuum and ensure continuity, the government has appointed Professor Samaila Arzika Mungadi as the Sole Administrator of the university. Professor Mungadi has been granted a specific mandate to stabilize the institution's governance and restore academic integrity. He will manage the university's affairs until a new Governing Council is reconstituted and a fresh set of principal officers is appointed through the established legal channels.
